Beating good teams! (Ep. 106)

The Orioles pace of wins has slowed, but now they are proving their mettle against top tier competition.

May is halfway over, and the Orioles remain atop the AL Wild Card standings. Things have changed. The competition has gotten stiffer. And the O’s rate of wins has slowed. But they are still winning more than they are losing, and there are signs of progress throughout the roster.

Dean Kremer is pitching better. Gunnar Henderson is hitting the ball harder. Tyler Wells is carrying the rotation. And the bullpen remains amazing!

At the same time, there are also some issues. Grayson Rodriguez has had rookie growing pains. Jorge Mateo looks like his 2022 self at the plate again. And no one in the AL East looks like dropping out of this race any time soon.

All in all, these are happy times in Birdland! The team’s hot start has bought them some cushion for the remainder of the season. To this point, they haven’t really needed it, but it’s nice to have.

On this week’s episode, we talk about everything mentioned above plus Cedric Mullins’ cycle, no days off from the team’s core, and how Ramón Urías’ injury impacts the lineup.
