Let's talk about Dylan Cease | Ep. 118
The Orioles have been connected to the White Sox ace a whole bunch this offseason. What makes him so special?
It’s been a slow start to the baseball offseason, not just in Baltimore but all around Major League Baseball. One can guess that much of the league is waiting for Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto to decide where they will play in 2024 before moving on to their various Plan Bs. Until that happens, player movement could be at a minimum.
But that hasn’t prevented rumors from flying around, including on the starting pitching front. That’s where much of the Orioles’ fanbase has their attention focused. GM Mike Elias has stated time and time again that the team wants to add a starter to the front half of their rotation, and the team has been connected to several names in line with that goal.
Perhaps the most prominent name to be on the Orioles’ radar is Dylan Cease. The hard-throwing righty didn’t have his best season with the White Sox in 2023, but that doesn’t erase his past successes. This is someone that was a Cy Young candidate just a year ago and he comes with two years of team control remaining. It’s no wonder the Orioles might be interested in adding him to their current set up that includes Kyle Bradish and Grayson Rodriguez.
On this episode Eli gets into the weeds on Cease. He explains what makes him an alluring trade option and why he struggled so much in 2023.
